US Vice President Dick Cheney is meeting with Ukraine's leaders to discuss NATO and energy issues.
Friday's visit comes amid a domestic power struggle that could see the pro-Western President Viktor Yushchenko call snap elections before November if it's not resolved. Ukraine is Cheney's final stop of a three-day tour of the region aimed to shore up support for US allies following last month's military conflict between Georgia and Russia. On Thursday, Cheney met with Georgia's President Mikhail Saakashvili in Tblisi, where he stressed the need to resolve the status of Georgia's two separatist regions. Meanwhile the OSCE says military observers have now entered a Russian buffer zone inside Georgia for the time since last month's five-day war between the two countries.
